Chinese Language and Culture Program (CLCP)

¡¾Introduction¡¿
Chinese Language and Culture Program (CLCP) is organized by the Center for Overseas Academic and Cultural Exchanges (COACE) with the aim of enhancing overseas students¡¯ Chinese language capabilities and increase their understanding about Chinese culture and society.

¡¾Applicants¡¿
All applicants should be over 14 years old (including Hong Kong, Tai Wan and Macao Students), and will be assigned to an appropriate class according to their Chinese proficiency level..

¡¾Course Arrangement¡¿
The Program delivers 48 class hours per week£¨6 days£©, including Chinese Language courses (28-32 class hours), Cultural courses ( 12 class hours), off-campus tour and Experiencing Chinese Traditional Arts (1 day).
¡¾Language course¡¿: Chinese language listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
¡¾Cultural course¡¿: Taiji, Kungfu, calligraphy, seal cutting, paper cutting, etc.
¡¾Experience Chinese Culture¡¿: Beijing Opera, Chinese acrobatics etc.
¡¾Off-campus tour¡¿: visits to historical places in Beijing.

¡¾Certificate¡¿
Participants who finish all the courses and pass the end-term exam will be awarded the certificate of Chinese Language and Culture program. (Those who miss more than 3 classes are not qualified for the certificate).

Summer Course 2012

¡¾Scheduled Time¡¿: July 1st ¨C July 28th, 2012 (4 wks)
¡¾Application deadline¡¿: June 15th, 2012
¡¾Fee¡¿: RMB13,600

Notes: The fee includes tuition, accommodation and off-campus tour fees. Meal fee is exclusive. Students can have meals at Tsinghua canteen. The meals cost about 20rmb/day.

¡¾Admission¡¿
1) Fulfill the application form£¨download here£©and submit it to COACE via email, regular mail, or fax.
2) The admission letter will be sent out before June 15th, 2012 if the applicant is admitted by Coace, Tsinghua University.
3) Email to tss_coace@tsinghua.edu.cn in one week after receiving the admission letter, and pay the corresponding fees in the attached invoice.
4) Registration under the guide of the admission letter.

¡¾FAQ¡¿
1£© What is COACE?
A: COACE stands for Center for Overseas Academic and Cultural Exchanges, which is the specific institution for overseas exchanges in Tsinghua University.

2£© How is the class organized?
A: Each class will be with no more than 25 participants.

3£© Can I get a diploma or credits from this program?
A: No. The participants will be issued a certificate after end-of-term test, however, no diploma or credits will be awarded.

4£© How about the final test and the evaluation of the program?
A: At the first class, the teacher will have an evaluation test on students¡¯ Chinese language capabilities, according to which the following classes will be given. After the end of all the classes, a final test will be given on speaking, listening and writing. Participants passing the test will be issued certificates.

5£© Can I live with Tsinghua students?
A: No. Short term overseas students could only live in on-campus overseas students dormitories.

6£© How about the dorm?
A: Students will be living in on-campus oversea students¡¯ A/B dorms with one single bed, TV, air conditioner, telephone, and separate bathroom.

7£© Can I arrive in Tsinghua before the registration date or can I live on campus after the end of the program?
A: If you want to live on campus before or after the program, you need to submit an application for extra on-campus living in two weeks after receiving the admission letter, but the duration could not be longer than 3 days, and any extra cost should be paid by students themselves.
